About Symbolic

Symbolic allows you to add new math functions to your TI-83+ or TI-83+ Silver Edition calculators. These functions include all the inverse trigonometry functions, a symbolic differentiation function, an arc length function, a symbolic simplify function and more. These functions can be used anywhere on the operating system from the Homescreen to your own BASIC programs and even Applications and ASM programs.

Q1: How do I put this application on my calculator?
A1: You will need a TI-GraphLink which can be bought from any number of electronics stores or http://epsstore.ti.com/ for about $20. You will then need TI-GraphLink software v2.0 or higher, or TI-Connect.

Q2: Can I type this application into my calculator?
A2: No applications cannot be typed into a calculator.

Q3: Will this program be ported to another calculator?
A3: No. Other calculators cannot make full use of this application's source code.

Q4: What is symbolic manipulation?
A4: This refers to software which finds the solution to a problem algebraically rather than numerically.

Q5: What is differentiation?
A5: Differentiation is a operation done in calculus. The resulting equation can be used to calculate the slope at any point along the original equation.

Q6: Can this be used on the SAT and ACT?
A6: This may change in the future and it is the user's responsibilty to verify this however as of January 14, 2002 the SAT and ACT permit external (yes apps are external) Computer Algebra Systems to be installed on the TI-83+.
